Getting found · SEO

Someone in Jersey is searching for what you sell. SEO decides whether they find you.

Local SEO for Jersey businesses. I work out why you are not showing up on Google, then fix it: on the site you already have, or built into a new one from the start.

online adults read the AI summary above the results at least sometimes. Ofcom again.

Three ways in

Three ways to get a Jersey business found.

If you are not on page one, or inside the AI answer above it, people find somebody else. There is no complaint and no bad review. The work just goes quietly somewhere else.

Option one

A written SEO report

I tell you what is wrong. You decide what happens next.

  • Site and listing gone through properly
  • Ordered by what will actually move you
  • Yours to keep, hand it to anyone
Priced per site · quoted before you commit
Option two

Fixed on the site you have

The same look at it, but I do the work.

  • Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, Shopify
  • Often one or two things and you are done
  • No rebuild
Quoted once I have looked
Option three

Built into a new site

Usually the better answer

Done once, done properly, all of it.

  • Every item on this page, in before launch
  • No platform fighting every fix
  • Plus everything else the site should be doing
How a build runs
Often cheaper than patching an old one
Search has changed

Being read by an AI is not quite the same job as ranking on Google.

Old SEO was largely about the words on your pages. Being the source a machine repeats needs more than that, and it is the part almost every existing site is missing. Google itself is not shrinking and searches are at a record high. What has changed is how many of them end with somebody arriving on your site.

  • Your facts written as structured data: services, area, hours, prices and reviews, in the format machines actually parse rather than pretty text only a human can read.
  • Content that answers the question asked, in plain sentences a model can lift, rather than a homepage of adjectives.
  • The AI crawlers deliberately let in. A lot of sites block them by accident, or through a setting somebody once ticked. If they cannot read you, you cannot be quoted.
  • Details that agree everywhere, because a machine deciding whether to trust you checks your site against everywhere else you appear.

That is the extra work, and I do all of it, on the site you have now. None of it is a bet on a trend either: every one of those things makes you rank better in ordinary search too.

What I actually do

SEO is a job of work. I do the whole of it.

Open any of these if you want the detail. On a site I build, all of it is in place before it goes live rather than sold back to you afterwards.

Everything else I do
Research, before a word is written

Keyword research grounded in what people in Jersey actually type, not what sounds right.

Search intent mapped to pages, so each page answers one thing properly rather than three things vaguely.

The terms your competitors are winning, and the ones nobody has claimed yet.

The pages themselves

Titles and descriptions written for each page individually, never templated.

Headings structured so a machine can follow the argument of the page.

Internal links that lead somewhere useful and pass weight to the pages that need it.

Images compressed, named properly, and given alt text that means something.

What the machines read

Structured data to current schema.org standards: your business type, services, location, hours and reviews.

A clean sitemap and robots configuration, so what should be indexed is and what should not be is not.

Crawler access configured deliberately, including the AI crawlers. You decide who reads what.

Canonicals, redirects and housekeeping that stop you competing against yourself.

Speed, and the phone in someone's hand

Core Web Vitals measured and fixed, not assumed.

Tested on Jersey mobile data, because that is where it will be used.

Afterwards

Analytics and Search Console connected and readable, so you can see what is happening.

Everything documented, in your name, on your accounts.

Off the site

The unloved jobs off the site. Usually the fastest win.

Your website is half of local SEO. The other half sits in the places Google checks before it decides whether to believe a Jersey business.

Your Google Business listing

Claimed and filled in properly: hours, services, categories, photos, the lot.

Details made consistent

Everywhere they already appear online, so nothing contradicts anything else.

The words people type

Rather than the words your trade uses internally.

Fast on a phone

On Jersey mobile data, not just on your desk.

A review routine

Simple enough that you keep doing it, so reviews arrive on purpose rather than by luck.

Google Ads, only if the numbers justify it

Fixed fee, no cut of your spend.

What I will not sell you

Four SEO things I will talk you out of.

Saying no to these is not modesty. It is what leaves the time and the budget for the work that actually moves a small business up the results.

A guarantee of position one

Nobody can honestly sell you that.

A monthly SEO retainer

That quietly produces a report and nothing else.

Stuffing and bought links

Anything that risks a penalty later.

A rebuild you do not need

When the listing and the page titles were the problem.

Common questions

The things people ask about SEO in Jersey.

Every figure I publish, including what a build costs, is on the pricing page.

How much does SEO cost in Jersey?

It depends on what your site is built on. Some platforms let me implement all of it properly in a day. Others fight you at every step. Rather than quote a number that turns out to be wrong, I would rather look first and then tell you. That look is free, and if a couple of hours would sort you out, I will say so.

Can you guarantee I will be number one on Google?

No, and neither can anyone else. What can be done is to remove every reason you are not showing up, and there are usually only a handful: a missing listing, a slow site, pages that do not mention what you sell, details that disagree across the web. Fix those and you are in the running on merit. On an island this size that is usually enough.

Will my business show up in ChatGPT or other AI search?

Nobody can promise that yet, so I will not sell you a separate AI SEO package that pretends otherwise. The behaviour change is real: Ofcom found 54% of UK adults now use AI tools, and Pew Research found people click through to a website roughly half as often when an AI summary appears. What the best available evidence does not show is that the techniques commonly sold as AI SEO reliably move whether an AI mentions you. What genuinely helps is unglamorous: a fast, clear, readable site, business details that agree everywhere they appear, and a real Google Business listing. That is real work and it is charged for like any other work, but it is the same groundwork that makes you readable to Google, so it earns its keep whether or not an AI ever quotes you.

How do I get my business to show up on Google in Jersey?

For most small Jersey businesses the fastest win is not the website at all: it is a properly filled-in Google Business listing, with the right category, real opening hours, photos and reviews. After that it is making sure your name, address and contact details match everywhere they appear online, and that your pages use the words people actually type. Those three things move local rankings more than anything else, and none of them require a rebuild.

What do you do that a cheap SEO package does not?

Cheap packages do the visible third: a listing, some page titles, a monthly report. What gets skipped is everything nobody can see: structured data, crawler configuration, load speed measured and fixed, research done before the words are written. Those parts take real time and cannot be automated, which is exactly why they get left out. Ask anyone quoting you which of that list they are actually doing.

Do I need to pay for SEO every month?

Often not. A good chunk of this is done once and then stays done. I would rather fix the thing and stop than put you on a retainer that produces a monthly report nobody reads.

Is SEO worth it for a small Jersey business?

Usually yes, because the local field is small and the basics are so often left undone. You are not competing with the whole internet, you are competing with other Jersey businesses, plenty of whom have an unclaimed listing and a site that takes five seconds to load. That race is won with tidiness rather than budget.

Find out what is actually holding you back.

It is usually one or two specific things and they are quick to find. Tell me your business name on a call and I will have looked before we speak. If the answer is that you are fine as you are, I will tell you that too.
